William Fenlon B.Dent.Sc. M.Dent.Sc.(Paedo), M.R.C.D(C)

Billy Fenlon is a Paediatric Dentist in private practice since 1992. After completing his B.Dent.Sc.(Hons) from Trinity College Dublin in 1984, qualifying first in his year, he worked as House Officer in the Dublin Dental Hospital and in General Dental Practice in Navan.

Billy The Kid's Dentist

He completed his M.Dent.Sc. in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Leeds in 1990. He also attained a Membership in Paediatric Dentistry from the Royal College of Dentists in Canada in 1990. On returning to Dublin he taught Paediatric Dentistry to both undergraduates and post graduates at the Dublin Dental School. He was a staff member at our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin for 15 years.

Billy The Kid's Dentist

In 1992 Billy opened his private Paediatric practice at the Northbrook Clinic, Ranelagh. Since then he has provided comprehensive dental care for children of all ages. Billy is a Consultant Paediatric Dentist with admitting rights at the Beacon Hospital, Sandyford.

Billy is a past President of the Irish Society of Dentistry for Children in 1997. He is current Irish Councillor to the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry. He has delivered lectures nationally and internationally on various topics in Paediatric Dentistry. He has appeared on TV to raise awareness of, and promote oral health, in children. He is a member of the Irish Dental Association, the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.

Aifric Ni Chaollai B.Dent.Sc. M.F.D.S (RCSI) M.Dent.Sc.(Leeds), M.Paed.Dent (RCSPG)

Aifric Ni Chaollai is a Paediatric Dentist working in practice in Dublin since completing her three year Masters Degree at the Leeds Dental Institute in 2009.

Having received her dental degree at Trinity College, Dublin in 2000, Aifric also worked as a house officer at the Dublin Dental hospital for one year. She spent the following few years working in both the Health Service Executive's Dental Service, and also part-time at the Dublin Dental Hospital, where she worked both in the Oral Surgery (Sedation Unit) and in the Restorative Special Needs clinic, and one year was spent working as Dental Registrar at Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin. Aifric has travelled to Moldova on two occasions to work in a girls' orphanage.

Following completion of the Masters in Paediatric Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute in 2009, Aifric was awarded Membership in Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow. During her three years in Leeds, she also worked as a community dental officer.

Billy The Kid's Dentist Name: Martha El Mesery
Martha is the practice receptionist. Martha is in charge of making appointments, reminding parents of their next appointment, fee collection and office administration. Martha has worked in the practice for 11 years.
   
 
Billy The Kid's Dentist Name: Cathy Ryan DSA. (Dental Surgery Assistant)
Cathy is one of two professionally qualified dental nurses working in the practice. Cathy has 12 years experience assisting in Paediatric dental practice at the Northbrook Clinic. Cathy also looks after ordering of materials and equipment.
   
 
Billy The Kid's Dentist Name: Claire Murphy Dental Hygienist
Claire is our practice dental hygienist. Claire trained at the Dental School in Trinity College Dublin. Claire sees patients for review visits in conjunction with the Paediatric Dentist. Claire is in her 10th year at the practice.
   
 
Billy The Kid's Dentist Name: Annmarie Fleming DSA (Dental Surgery Assistant)
Annmarie is the second professionally qualified dental nurse. Annmarie has worked in general practice and orthodontic practice before joining our team 5 years ago.
   
 
The Dental Hygienist

The Dental Hygienist is an important part of the dental team. The Hygienists role is to improve the oral and dental health for individuals as well as groups in collaboration with a registered Dentist. The Dental Hygienist works with preventative and therapeutic procedures aimed to prevent and/or control dental decay and gum diseases.

How to become a Dental Hygienist?

The Diploma in Dental Hygiene is a full time two year course in the Dental School. The programme is theory, project based and has clinical c omponents. At the end of the two years the Dental Hygienist can communicate with patients in a caring and ethical way.

What treatments can a Hygienist carry out?

Treatments carried out by the Hygienist include cleaning and polishing teeth, placing fissure sealants, applying topical fluoride and identifying abnormalities in the mouth, taking dental radiographs and administering local anesthesia.

Claire Murphy is the Hygienist in our Practice. Claire qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1999 from Trinity College Dublin, achieving First Class Honors with Distinction and a Dental Council Award for first in the class. Claire joined our practice in 1999, and has since been working at promoting excellent oral and dental health in children. Her duties set out under the patients treatment plan include oral hygiene instruction, scaling and polishing of teeth, fissure sealant placement and application of fluoride solutions. Claire also provides advice regarding diet and tailors dental hygiene instruction to the individual patient's needs and skill level.

Once our patient has completed an initial examination and any necessary treatment we arrange our check visit at 6 months with our Hygienist. Dr Fenlon also sees the patients at this follow up visit.
